Hey there! I’m Rebekah
Writer, justice activist, homeschooling mom, religious educator for children, and former community organizer
Who am I?
I’m mama to a boisterous tween and stepmom to a chill young adult. I’m also a writer, an activist, a homeschooling mom, a United Methodist deacon, a children’s religious educator, and a former community organizer focused on interfaith justice work.
From deciding I should start a worker rights nonprofit when I was fresh out of seminary to helping 5 year olds write letters to our Senator about ending deportatation, I’ve always believed that my daily life could and should be aligned with my purpose.
As my (at the time) frustrated Dad told me when I was 19, “you never choose the easy way to do anything!” I’d say I don’t choose the usual ways of doing things.
I did found that nonprofit by the way, and loved guiding it for a decade. But when I became a Mom, my focus shifted from being a Super Social Justice Women to being a Super Mommy so fast that it was painful.
Even as I dove head first into a stay at home mom routine, I knew the justice crusader was still in there somewhere. She was just terribly sleep deprived and trying desparately to keep up with an active, sensitive toddler.
After quite a bit of searching and stumbles (what parent hasn’t had them?) I realized I didn’t need to be super anything.
I just needed to be the good-enough Mom who I was, and use the activist and teaching gifts I had to support other caregivers and educators on a similar journey.
So I started my business focused on nurturing brave kids who seek justice. I knew I wasn’t the only caregiver out there who didn’t want to wait til my kid was an adult to talk to them about the things that mattered most.
