When our son was born, if you’d asked me what one of his favorite activities would be at age 4, I would not have predicted geography. Yet, here he is, fascinated with things like maps, landmarks, and the names of continents.
Part of his interest surely stems from the fact that he attends Montessori preschool, where a strong emphasis is placed on learning about the world.
What really gets him excited about exploring the world – and I mean jumping up and down excited – is when his Little Passports package arrives each month.

What is Little Passports?
Little Passports was founded by two moms who wanted to inspire kids to learn about the world. They offer a variety of subscription packages for children ages 3 – 12. Choices include Early Explorers (ages 3 – 5), World Edition (ages 6 – 10), USA edition (ages 7 – 12), and Science Expeditions (ages 9+). You can choose a one month subscription, 6 months, or 12 months.
Our little guy has been receiving the Early Explorers subscription for over a year now. He loves it so much that he asks me several times a week if it’s today is when Little Passports will arrive (even if his monthly package arrived 3 days ago.)
Our experience with Little Passports Early Explorers
The Early Explorers subscription focuses on a different theme each month, such as oceans, art, landmarks, or dinosaurs. The first month, he received his suitcase, stickers for the suitcase, a nice wall map, and an activity booklet.
Each month after that, he’s received a themed package. Below you can see what was included in the month we received our World Art package. Every month there is some type of souvenir (in this case, a canvas and paint set.) Each month there are also a letter and a postcard from Max and Mia, who travel the world with their dog Toby.
One of our son’s favorite things in the package are the stickers that he places on the wall map. For example, in the art package they were 4 famous works of art from different continents. He’s also a big fan of the flashlight adventures, which spotlight well known places related to the theme for the month.
The passport activity booklet that’s included usually has a combination of activities children can do in the booklet itself, such as coloring, tracing, or mazes, as well as hands on experiments or activities related to the theme. For example, during the Oceans theme, he did an experiment showing how eggs will float in salt water.
The monthly package also includes trading cards, as well as luggage tags and stickers for your child’s suitcase.
Receiving Little Passports has sparked so many conversations that we might not otherwise have. Because we hung his wall map right next to his bed, when we’re reading books that are set in another country, he always wants to pause and find them on the map.
The souvenirs are very sturdy and are usually the first thing our son wants to take with him when we go on errands and he needs a toy.
As a parent, I love that everything can fit into his suitcase, so that the packages don’t end up scattered all over the house!

Little Passports also sent me a copy of their book to review: Max, Mia, and Toby’s Adventures Around the World. Young readers follow Max and Mia to each of the 7 continents and visit some of their most famous sites.
For each continent, there’s also an envelope with souvenirs, such as this puzzle of Egyptian hieroglyphics or a recipe for handmade Mexican tortillas.
While I’m not surprised that he loves the souvenirs, he’s been just as interested in reading the pages that show places Max and Mia are visiting. He often wants to locate them on the map or tell me about other things he has learned about the particular country they’re staying in.
